Due to the inter-departmental and inter-institutional nature of the SCBMB program, students and researchers are not limited to working entirely within one University. SCBMB has brought together faculty from several major research institutions in and around the Medical Center. Students are encouraged to take class and do rotations not only within the Baylor College of Medicine, but also The University of Houston, Rice University, The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and The University of Texas - Houston Health Science Center. This provides students with the opportunity to take classes and do research in an wider array of sepecialties than could be provided from a single institution.
